Mokokchung, July 24: On receiving a written assurance given by the Executive Engineer, PHED Mokokchung division asking for a month’s time to ensure proper water supply to the registered water consumers in the town, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) decided to wait till the end of August, 2020 for the department to deliver on its assurance.

The MTLT’s ultimatum to the PHED was about the supply of drinking water to the 2500 water subscribers in Mokokchung town. It was served on June 9 and expired on July 23. The MTLT, in its June 9 ultimatum had categorically declared to the PHED that department would not be allowed to be a department of excuses and demanded realistic actions within 45 days.

The EE, PHED Mokokchung division, Er. Yanger Pongen, in his letter to the MTLT, stated, “…I would like to assure you that the department will complete all repair works of the existing water supply system of Mokokchung town and resume water supply of available water to all registered consumers within a month’s time.”

The MTLT has planned some dire measures to act against the PHED for its failure to supply potable drinking water to the registered consumers for the past many years. However, in good faith, and also in the greater interest of the public, the MTLT decided to wait till the month of August.

However, the MTLT had decided to ‘wait and watch’ whether the department would be able to deliver and remain true to its words.
