Mokokchung, 29th Sept (Nokinketer News): Celebrating the theme “Igniting Cultural Traditions” a one day Tribal festival was held at District Cultural Office Complex, Mokokchung on 29th Sept., 2022 organized by the District Cultural Office, Mokokchung and Department of Art & Culture.

Highlight of the days program include cultural presentation from Associates for Performing Arts and Theatricals (APAT) Mokokchung, Ao Sungkum Cultural Club, Mokokchung village, Sangpang, Shizung, Long, Changchaliba  Sayiba (Indigenous games demonstration), N.I Jamir GHSS – Benjongmong Tsüngsang (Folk Dance), Mayangnokcha GHSS – folk dance, Watemdong Cultural Club Ungma village Indigenous game, Folk Tune (Alu Wadang Ken) – Imlinungchet & Akinaro and presentation of folk-lore from Lendongrenla & Aokonang Jamir.

Earlier, the program special guest, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS, while delivering a speech on the occasion maintained that India is a diverse country with varied cultures and tradition which can be counted as the strength and beauty of the country, in this line Nagaland can be termed as mini India as we do have varied tribes with distinct cultural traditions.

Acknowledging the initiatives taken by the department to hold such event, he said it measured up to recognizing the diverse traditional culture of the people. He also went on to opine that performing arts is in asset to every community.

District Cultural Officer while delivering the welcome address said Festival is the time to bring social cohesion among the community along with communicating tradition to the coming generation in order to preserve its distinct identities.
