The Watsu Center for Women Development was inaugurated by the Director of Women Resource Development, Shri Vilone Sakhrie, at WRC Marepkong at Mokokchung.

In his speech, the director said that the inaugural of the centre was delayed due to the pandemic; he further added that Watsu Mungdang is a highly respected and recognised women’s organisation in the state that is tirelessly working for the upliftment of women, and that the department always looks forward to working in joint venture with Watsu Mungdang even in the days to come.

Wt. Arenla Longkumer, president of Watsu Mungdang, said in her speech that the inauguration of this centre was a long-awaited dream that came true in the history of Watsu Mungdang. The Watsu Center for Women Development was the resolution that was made during the Silver Jubilee held in April 2007.

The detailed project report was submitted to Smti. Dr. Syeda Hameed, who was Member, Planning Commissioner, Government of India during that time and who was also the Guest of Honor at the Silver Jubilee.

By inaugurating the center, the Watsu Mungdang can now provide facilities for learning and cater to youth, particularly women, by creating cultural tourism, which would include a training component and skill building.

The programme ended with closing remarks by the chairperson, Shri T. Thungbemo Patton, WRDO, and I/C Mokokchung district, followed by training on post-harvest processing and value addition, which was initiated by Officer I/C Shri Nzanthung K. Yanthan, Asst. Director of Women Resource Development.
