

Mokokchung, June 5: Along with the rest of the world, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) in collaboration with The Treehouse (educational institution) observed the World Environment Day (WED) by planting trees in and around Mokokchung town on Friday, June 5, 2020 on the theme ‘Biodiversity – It’s time for nature’.
The WED tree planting drive was actively initiated by the MTLT grievances cell convener Aolong Imchen and The Treehouse proprietor Arenla Lemtur where around thirty volunteers actively participated in the plantation drive.
Though the whole world is going through an extraordinary situation, the MTLT felt that taking care of the nature is the responsibility of every individual and organization in the society. As such, the World Environment Day was observed to so as to contribute something to the society through the tree plantation activity and also to create awareness in the society about the importance of taking care of our biodiversity.
On the occasion, the first tree was symbolically planted by the Mokokchung DC Limawapang at the Deputy Commissioner Office complex. Thereafter, the MTLT and The Treehouse volunteers planted trees at the IMDH (district hospital complex), the district jail, P. Shilu Ao Park, the Mokokchung town park, the Mission Compound, Aongza Ward, BOC, Sungkomen ward and the Urban Health Centre, Yimyu ward. The tree saplings were provided by the District Forest Office, Mokokchung.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Limawapang Jamir highly appreciated the MTLT and The Treehouse for the great initiative. He said that the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; but the next best time is now. He further encouraged to conserve the environment and to teach the youngsters how to live in equilibrium with nature.
Nonetheless, the MTLT highly appreciates The Treehouse (school) for collaborating with the Telongjem in observing the WED. The MTLT also appreciates the DFO, Mokokchung for providing the tree saplings, the district administration for the moral support, and all the volunteers for making the plantation drive a great success.
The MTLT has also pledged to safeguard the environment by creating more awareness and partnering with the different stakeholders in the society in making a cleaner and greener Mokokchung.
